NDA does not issue pest-control business licenses for structural work. The operative credential is the individual commercial applicator license in Category 08W. Owners remain responsible for applicator acts under Neb. Rev. Stat. § 2-2646.01. Both general-use and restricted-use pesticides within 08W scope require commercial licensing for for-hire work on another's property under § 2-2638(2) - even when no restricted-use product is used.

NDA defines Category 08W - Wood Destroying Organisms as general-use or restricted-use pesticides to protect structures from termites, carpenter ants, mold, and similar WDO. The category explicitly excludes fumigants.

What fits Category 08W. Subterranean termite liquid barriers, bait systems, and non-fumigant treatments for carpenter ants and other WDO in structural contexts as labels allow. Equipment includes rodding tools, tanks, bait monitors, and moisture assessment - not route-spray gear alone.

What Category 08W excludes. Fumigants route to Category 11. General structural insect and rodent work stays in Category 08. Termites and carpenter ants on structures belong under 08/08W, not Category 04 - Ornamental and Turf Pest Control.

Exam requirement. Pass General Standards (60 questions) and Category 08W at 70 percent. Exam sitting fees are separate from the $90 three-year commercial license fee and are not fixed as a single NDA dollar amount on reviewed pages.

Category 08W certifies the individual applicator for WDO pesticide work. Nebraska does not issue a separate NDA structural pest-control business license for ordinary structural work.

Unlike business-license states, Nebraska licenses individuals. Each technician performing for-hire WDO applications needs a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License with Category 08W - or must work under direct supervision paths such as the once-in-a-lifetime 60-day noncertified applicator period (§ 2-2642(4) - (5)).

Entity formation, tax IDs, and local permits are separate from NDA licensing. Owners remain liable for applicator acts under § 2-2646.01. Match advertised WDO services to category credentials on file for each applicator.

Nebraska operators frequently hold Category 08 for heavy residential and commercial insect and rodent programs. Category 08 covers broad structural and health-related pest control but does not substitute for Category 08W when the work is wood-destroying organism protection as NDA defines it.

Common mistake. A firm certified through Category 08 advertises termite baiting because "we already have a structural commercial license." NDA category scopes are not interchangeable. Enforcement during inspection or customer complaint review will compare advertised services to categories on the applying individual's license.

General Standards alone. General Standards certification supports general-use pesticide work within permitted categories but does not replace Category 08W for WDO scope. Real-estate-driven termite business models in Nebraska typically implicate Category 08W whether products are general-use or restricted-use, because § 2-2638(2) requires commercial licensing for for-hire structural applications regardless of product tier.

Multiple categories. Technicians may hold 08 and 08W simultaneously. Each category requires passing that category examination. Category 08W covers general-use and restricted-use pesticides for wood-destroying organisms but explicitly excludes fumigants. Any restricted structural fumigation with solid or gaseous fumigants - including buildings, chambers, vaults, tents, vehicles, or vessels - requires Category 11 - Structural and Non-Soil Fumigation, not Category 08W.

Operational firewall. Fumigation demands tarping, sealing, aeration monitoring, placarding, and emergency response capabilities beyond Category 08W liquid and bait workflows. Nebraska firms sometimes subcontract fumigation rather than certifying in-house in Category 11.

Vehicle and warehouse contexts. Category 11 scope includes fumigation of vehicles, vessels, warehouses, and related contexts for food protection and wood-infesting or imported pests. WDO fumigation jobs implicate Category 11 even when the target organism is wood-destroying.

Insurance alignment. No statutory NDA liability-insurance minimum was located for commercial structural applicator licensing, but commercial liability policies should cover services performed. Customer communication. Quotes should distinguish non-fumigant termite treatments (08W) from fumigation proposals (11). Real-estate stakeholders often conflate "termite job" with any tenting or structural gas treatment; Nebraska credentials do not conflate them.
